World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
